YURI GAGARIN 47th ANNIVERSARY
Yuri Gagarin was the first human to go into space on April 12th, 1961. During a short but intense 108 minutes flight, Gagarin orbited once around the Earth at 18,000 miles an hour. Eventually, he ejected from the capsule and landed by parachute on an agricultural area of Saratov region..The achievement of Yuri Ggarin is celebrated worldwide. In fact there are Yuri parties conducted worldwide. Yuri's Night is like the St Patricks Day or Cinco de Mayo for space. It is one day when all the world can come together and celebrate the power and beauty of space and what it means for each of us.
I celebrated the 47th anniversary of his flight at Star City. On the same day, Richard and I were invited to a special ceremony at the Dome of Cosmonaut in honour of Yuri's flight. We both shared our views as to what the flight symbolised to us and the inspiration it provided to millions across the globe.
